Skincare ingredients mix DO's and DONT's

Glass skin doesn’t come from using more products,  it comes from using them the right way.

In K-beauty, your routine is like a recipe. The right ingredient combinations can transform your skin, while the wrong mix can throw everything off balance.

Some ingredients work better together, boosting each other’s effects. Others? Not so much,  and can lead to irritation, breakouts or a stressed skin barrier.

Knowing what to mix and what to avoid is the secret behind a routine that actually works.

DO’s: The glow combinations

Hydration + Barrier Support

Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides and panthenol are made to be used together and form the base of almost every K-beauty routine.

They help to:
• deeply hydrate the skin
• strengthen the skin barrier
• prevent moisture loss

This combination keeps your skin plump, healthy and resilient, and helps protect it from external stressors. Think of this as your daily skin insurance, the foundation of every glow.

Actives + Soothing Ingredients

Strong actives such as retinol, AHA/BHA or vitamin C deliver results, but they can also be intense. Pairing them with calming ingredients such as centella, cica or green tea helps keep your skin balanced.

This combination helps to:
• reduce irritation
• support skin recovery
• maintain a healthy skin balance

It allows you to enjoy the benefits of actives without compromising your skin barrier. Glow without the stress.

Brightening Boosters

Niacinamide and Vitamin C can work beautifully together to boost your glow. This combination helps to brighten the skin, even out tone and improve overall radiance, while also supporting the skin barrier. Vitamin C works to reduce dullness and protect against environmental stress, while niacinamide helps to calm the skin, refine pores and improve texture.

They help to:
• even out skin tone
• reduce dullness
• enhance radiance

Together, they support a more clear, luminous and healthy-looking complexion. Perfect if you’re aiming for that effortless glass skin glow.

DONT's: The risky mixes

Retinol + AHA/BHA

Using retinol together with exfoliating acids can be too intense for the skin. Both ingredients speed up cell turnover, which sounds great, but combined they can easily overwhelm your skin.

This can lead to:
• irritation
• redness
• dryness
• a weakened skin barrier

Instead, alternate them:
• use acids 1–2 times per week
• use retinol on separate nights

Less stress, better results.

Retinol + Vitamin C

Retinol and vitamin C are both powerful actives, but they don’t always work well together in the same routine. Combining them can increase the chance of sensitivity, especially if your skin is not used to actives.

This can lead to:
• irritation
• stinging
• redness

For best results:
• use vitamin C in the morning
• use retinol in the evening

Balance is key.

AHA/BHA + Vitamin C

Layering exfoliating acids with vitamin C can be too much for the skin at once. Both are active ingredients that can lower the skin’s tolerance when combined.

This can lead to:
• sensitivity
• redness
• over-exfoliation

To avoid this:
• use vitamin C in the morning
• use AHA/BHA in the evening or on alternate days

Keep your routine effective, not aggressive.
